Melanie Lynskey’s daughter is “fascinated” with her ex-husband.
On the Thursday, June 26 episode of Drama Queens, the Yellowjackets star, 48, shared that her 6-year-old daughter, whose name hasn’t been revealed, is “fascinated” by her ex-husband, Dark Matter actor Jimmi Simpson.
“My daughter is, like, fascinated with him,” she said. “I accidentally see the ex-husband in front of her one day, she was like, ‘Mommy,’ and she was like, ‘Did you kiss him?'”
“I said, yeah. I sure did,” she continued. “Bunch of times.”

The Two and a Half Men and Matlock stars welcomed their daughter in December 2018. However, it wasn’t until January 2019 that Lynskey confirmed her arrival. Speaking to InStyle in August 2022, Lynskey explained that for the well-being of their family, her husband has declined acting roles that aren’t “life-changing,” so he’s not away from them for too long. During times when Lynskey is off on the road working, she has a special way to stay connected to her daughter.
“She loves to write notes and receive notes, like little cards that say, ‘I love you so much,’ or if she gets upset about something, she’ll write out an apology card,” the New Zealand actress told PEOPLE in April 2024.
Lynskey continued, “It says, ‘I’m sorry for getting upset that I wasn’t allowed a lollipop,’ or whatever. So we have stacks and stacks of cards that we’ve written each other.”
Since then, the actors have maintained their child’s privacy by not revealing her name or showing her face online. Still, the couple share glimpses of her on social media, including posting photos highlighting their summer break adventures.
On Saturday, Dec. 14, the actress opened up about how it felt becoming a mother as she celebrated her daughter’s birthday. In a sentimental Instagram post, the actress shared a picture of the birthday girl playing on a playground in a purple dress and braided pigtails.
“Six years ago, at the end of a 28 hour labour and a few really scary moments, you were born,” the proud mom began in her caption. “The moment I saw you it was like every question I ever had was answered.”
She continued sweetly, “Every choice I’d ever made, every mistake, every wonderful thing and terrible thing that had ever happened to me had to happen to lead to the moment that I got to become your mother. That is the honour of my life, my honey.”

In April 2024, Lynskey opened up to PEOPLE about her relationship with her daughter, calling her a “little angel person” and sharing how she keeps their relationship strong even when away.
“She loves to write notes and receive notes, like little cards that say, ‘I love you so much,’ or if she gets upset about something, she’ll write out an apology card,” Lynskey told PEOPLE. “It says, ‘I’m sorry for getting upset that I wasn’t allowed a lollipop,’ or whatever. So we have stacks and stacks of cards that we’ve written each other.”
Before a then-recent trip to London, “I cut little heart shapes out and left her little surprise notes, which she found within 24 hours. She went on a mission, she got so excited,” the actress continued. “So she’s like, ‘Where are the rest of my notes?’ I’m like, well you found them, you found 12 notes, but one was in her lunchbox and one was under her pillow and stuff like that. So that’s her favorite thing.”
